REPORT: Cite Your Sources

DearREADERS,
In my previous posting Doing as I say Ol’ Myrt tendered her application to participate in the 2008 Genea-Bloggers Group Games. After a solid nine days of work, I have the following to report:

CITE YOUR SOURCES
In this category, Ol’ Myrt here has successfully created 13 new citations for newly scanned images attached to ancestors in my genealogy management software. At first I used RootsMagic to create my source citations. I then imported by database in Legacy Family Tree to use the new SourceWriter. I found that the fill-in –the-blank options for each type of citation provided a clean, well-composed set of citations.

Myrt was one of those old-timer genealogists who used a DOS version of PAF back in the mid-1980s, and though I’ve updated my software, I’ve just never made the push to start citing sources in a place other than notes. Notes are better left to biographical notations, but I barely have time to keep up with my newly discovered proof documents.

My work in citing sources should earn me at least a BRONZE medal in the games competition.

Happy family tree climbing!
Myrt :)
