TRIBUTE for Memorial Day

A few weeks ago Ol’ Myrt here told you about her friend Duane Lempke and his fine art photography book titled TRIBUTE A pictorial of the National World War II Memorial featuring the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.

Now there is news that this coming Memorial Day, the 5th anniversary of the National World War II Memorial will be celebrated with a wreath-laying ceremony at 8am. Duane tells me he plans to be there to photograph the event. I plan to spend part of the day there as well.

In addition to the placement of the wreath, the National Capital Region of the National Park Service will present a living history program at the memorial throughout the day to commemorate memorial Day from 8:30 am to 4:30pm. If you need directions, you’ll find them at the park service website.

Pictured above is Duane with Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur of the 9th Congressional District, Ohio. She endorsed TRIBUTE last year. The reason for the meeting was to see the final results of a TRIBUTE print now hanging in her office on the wall behind them. It is her favorite from Duane’s book. If you’d like to order a copy of the book, see

“The World War II Memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home. Symbolic of the defining event of the 20th Century, the memorial is a monument to the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of the American people. The Second World War is the only 20th Century event commemorated on the National Mall’s central axis.”
