Pioneer travels (ugh!)

From: Donna
DearMYRTLE,
All your travelin' words brought this to mind: Every time I take folks to the airport, or pack for a 2-day weekend, or any really simple trip, there is always TOO MUCH STUFF packed and this phrase comes to mind: The pioneers crossed the plains with less than this!!!" And sadly, too true, eh?

DearDONNA,
Your comments echo my thoughts exactly. Here in the 21st century, we are so blessed with material comforts -- air conditioning, cell phones, comfortable cars, internet communications, in addition to hotels and restaurants at nearly every turn.

I don't think I have the grit to survive as a pioneer moving west from Nauvoo, Illinois to the great Salt Lake Valley, as did many of my paternal ancestors.

On July 24th we celebrate the arrival of the first group of Mormons to the overlook of the Salt Lake Valley at a place where Brigham Young stated This is the right place. Picture shown above is from the This is the Place Heritage Park website.

Happy family tree climbing!
Myrt :)
