RootsTech Official Blogger

DearREADERS,
10-12 February 2011 will find Ol' Myrt in Salt Lake City as an Official Blogger at the RootsTech Conference, the first techie conference of its kind. Designed to bring developers and end-users together to create the future of genealogy technology, this conference is more than a bunch of classes to attend. There will be hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and open sessions where innovation can happen in real time.  FamilySearch.org is the major sponsor of this premier event.

In a virtual bloggers' meeting held earlier today, Paul Nauta, FamilySearch Public Affairs Manager, described some RootsTech events:
  • 6 sessions will be broadcast online for free in real time.
  • RootsTech will professionally reproduce any attendee's presentation.
  • The exhibit hall will feature a "community zone" with 30 minute demos, a "play zone", a media hub and a "new technology player".
  • Official Bloggers will be given access to three dedicated booths to interview developers for upcoming blog posts, podcasts, etc
From the RootsTech.org website:
"The first annual RootsTech Conference will be a gathering of both family history enthusiasts and technologists from around the world. Genealogy hobbyists and professionals alike will discover new and emerging technologies that will improve and simplify their activities. At the same time, technology providers will enjoy a rare, face‐to‐face opportunity to interact with family history enthusiasts to better understand their needs.

Combining the Conference on Computerized Family History, the Technology Workshop, and the FamilySearch Developers Conference, RootsTech will foster innovation for years to come as genealogists looking for solutions share their challenges with high‐tech innovators eager to develop new applications for their technologies."

SALT PALACE CONVENTION CENTER
The RootsTech Conference will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center, just a half a block from Temple Square and the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.
