RESCUE microfilm being thrown out at NARA NYC

UPDATE: Since this blog post was published 24 Jan 2011 NARA has clarified its policy. See DearMYRTLE's newer post  Follow-up: Rescue Microfilm at NARA NYC for Non-Profits only published 27 Jan 2011.

DearREADERS,
Just received an email from Marie Varrelman Melchiori, CG, CGL who explains:
"I just got a phone call from Diane LeBlanc at NARA in Varick St., NYC.
NYC NARA is moving to the new Custom House building.   They are getting rid of a bunch of microfilm and will send it for cost of shipping. Does anyone know of a group that would be interested in this microfilm?
There is a list of the film on their website. http://www.archives.gov/northeast/nyc/move-notice.html
It's a PDF list of the film they are keeping, then on page 28 starts the list of film they are willing to donate for the cost of shipping. Diane said they had contacted local groups but did not get any interest. The date to notify them if your group is interested is 1 March.
The contact information is:
David Powers at david.powers@nara.gov or Diane Leblanc at diane.leblanc@nara.gov or call (781) 663-0130 or write to them at: Frederick C. Murphy Federal Center, 380 Trapelo Road, Waltham, Massachusetts, 02452-639."
Please rescue this microfilm. This might make a great gift for your local public library.
Time to take action is NOW.
Happy family tree climbing!
Myrt     :)
DearMYRTLE,
Your friend in g
