Inferential Study Group reconvenes Sunday

DearREADERS,
Highly motivated family historians will gather once again in Second Life at  5:15pm Second Life time to discuss a segment of Tom Jones' Inferential Genealogy course posted at FamilySearch. Our assignment in preparation for this class is to study Case 1.
Inferential Genealogy Study Group at the Just Genealogy Fire Pit in Second Life

Here's the pic of most of the 35 participants taken at our initial meeting this past Tuesday, when we discussed the Introduction. We also defined what "inferential genealogy" means to each of us at this point in time. We anticipate working through the case studies with Dr. Jones will  be quite a work out.

The remaining study group sessions will be as follows. Note the times indicated are in "Second Life" time, which is the same a Pacific US time.

The text in parenthesis is what we will discuss that evening. Please don't rush ahead. We wish to keep our discussion on point.

VOICE CHAT MODE
Whenever possible we hold our discussions in voice chat mode. This calls for a headset if you wish to speak. Otherwise just turn up your speakers, and respond or ask questions by typing to the screen the old-fashioned way.

To ensure your voice chat mode is activated for listening in Second Life viewer 2, click "ME" on the upper left menu bar, select "Preferences" to view the following dialog box:

Note that the "Sound and Media" Tab ABOVE permits you to adjust your master volume. (Left is off, moving the little button to the right gradually increases the sound.) Clicking the "Input/Output devices" button allows you to specify which devices you will use. In my case, I've chosen my headset microphone and headset earphone rather than built-in mic and external speakers.

ABOVE please note a screen shot that demonstrates what it looks like when a Second Life avatar is "talking" using voice chat mode. Note I pressed the "Speak" button at point 1, which now has a green dot, indicating it is active. As I speak through my headset, there is a series of green sound waves above my avatar, as indicated at point 2. Also there is a green dot with sound waves at point 3 above. If I click the "Speak" button again at point 1, it will turn off my microphone.

LARGER MEETING SPACE
Note above the directions for getting from our usual Sunday meeting place at the Family History Centre to the Tabernacle, designed to hold a much larger group. Thanks to land owner Skyler Goode for making this space available to us.
