Facebook is a-buzz with congrats for our friend Michael Leclerc.
"Michael has officially joined Mocavo as Chief Genealogist and will be working with us to help bring you the richest experience that the genealogical world has to offer. We’re ecstatic to be working with such an industry guru, and our entire team is very excited with what Mocavo will bring to the field of genealogy in 2012." Source: Mocavo Company Blog 1/16/2012.
Macavo is an online tool where you can sign up for a free account and use a simple search interface to search a variety of genealogy websites for an ancestor by name. One may opt for a premium account that permits wild card searches, first name alternatives, intelligent date searching, US GeoSearching, and exclusions to the search equation.
To more effectively use the site, Mocavo suggests:
"Upload your Family Tree to Mocavo and take part in the future of genealogy research. Mocavo will send out fully-automated search results to your email and will make new connections from all over the web! Also, each Family Tree will be rolled in to our search index to help out the community like never before."
Mocavo's home page also boasts this quote from Dick Eastman:
"All my future genealogy searches will start on Mocavo.com. I've been using the site for a while during its testing and have been very impressed. I suspect you will always have better luck searching for your own surnames of interest on Mocavo.com than on any other search engine."
Congrats to both Mocavo and Michael. Ol' Myrt here thinks this is a win-win that will benefit the genealogy community at large, and my research personally. Mocavo knows how to design a search engine that works, and Michael understands how researchers think when tackling a genealogical brick wall.
Happy family tree climbing!
Your friend in genealogy.
