During our a break in our week's studies at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, Tom Jones quietly disclosed his book has gone to press. Ol' Myrt here asked about the title and received permission from him to blog that the National Genealogical Society will be publishing Mastering Genealogical Proof by Thomas Jones, Ph. D., CG, CGL, FASG, FUGA, FNGS. The anticipated release is March 2013, but it could be as late as the May 2013 at the NGS Conference in Las Vegas.
RESOLVED: As soon as this book is in my hands, I'll refine the schedule a series of weekly Mastering Genealogical Methods workshop webinars. The author terms this "a workbook" and we'll work through it in a 90 minute panel discussion format with a room of "gotowebinar" participants. There will be homework. Here is the link to register for this series of webinars: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/898943473
Currently the workshops dates begin 17 March 2013 at 8pm Eastern. All registered participants will be notified if the date changes.
RESOLVED: Follow-up mid-week discussions will take place each week during the webinar series, at Just Genealogy in Second Life. If you are unfamiliar with this communication interface, Ol' Myrt here is hosting a Genealogy in Second Life workshop webinar Monday, 21 January 2013 beginning at 9pm Eastern US. Here is the link to register for this single session event: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/977181297
Just how the breakdown of chapters and assignments from Mastering Genealogical Proof will be calendared has yet to be determined.
What surprises me is that NGS hasn't set up a "landing page" describing the upcoming release of this much anticipated publication. This is perhaps because NGS doesn't think of itself as a publishing company per se. It would also be helpful if NGS would sell copies in advance, so NGS has some idea of the demand for this title.
Happy family tree climbing!
Your friend in genealogy.
