Mondays with Myrt 7 Oct 2013

DearREADERS,
It's almost time for another Mondays with Myrt, where we talk about what's trending in the world of genealogy. You'll want to be sure to tune in, since it will be two weeks before the next episode. Here's what we are thinking of discussing thus far:

KEEPING A DANCE CARD
Who owns whom and what's what in the world of genealogy.

BrightSolid
Ol' Myrt originally shared: Just when we got used to the name brightsolid, the new CEO changes the name of the company... http://www.brightsolid.com/brightsolid-group/latest-news/recent-news/the-future-for-family-history-is-digital.html
Maybe they'll learn from Ancestry.com that name changes aren't worth the effort?

Ancestry Acquires FindAGrave
The Legal Genealogist, +Judy G. Russell weighs in saying "_whose images are staying on FindAGrave? Mine for one._" Ol' Myrt's will too!

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
The Ellis Island Myth - Genealogy and Family History - D. Joshua Taylor
The last episode of Genealogy Roadshow one of the many stories featured questioned the original spelling of a surname being changed on arrival in the US. http://www.djoshuataylor.com/2013/10/01/the-ellis-island-myth

SPEAKING OF IMMIGRANTS
From one of Ol' Myrt's DearREADERS:
"On a personal note, do you have any idea or sites specific to finding the origin of a name? We are looking for the origins of the Disharoon name and we are pretty sure the ancestors were from somewhere in France. There is evidence of Disharoon's in Somerset county Maryland. That being said we are trying to figure out their French name when they arrived via boat and whether it what the name had changed from. A french connection to research the name, where they went perhaps before they landed in Md (maybe via the Caribbean?) Any research sites, institutions, etc. etc. would be GREATLY appreciated."
