DearREADERS,
Important news from our friends at TNA - The National Archives (UK), along with an crowdsourcing invitation to help the effort by "tagging":
First World War unit war diaries launched
online
"This year signals the
100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. To mark this
globally important anniversary, we are running First World War
100, an extensive programme of activities and events, spanning
five years from 2014 to 2019.
This week sees the launch of two of our most exciting initiatives: the online release of the first batch of digitised unit war diaries, and Operation War Diary, an innovative crowdsourcing project aimed at tagging the data from the diaries. Read our blog to see how you can help us.
For full details of these and the rest of our programme visit our First World War 100 portal to see all of our First World War records, including advice on how to carry out your research.
We look forward to helping you get the most from our First World War collection so that we can all better understand the conflict and the people involved."

Unit war diaries available
to search and download now
"From today you can search and download a selection of the unit war diaries (record series WO 95), one of our most popular record series. Written by officers in the front line, these diaries give unprecedented access to daily movements and action in the trenches and beyond. The project to conserve and digitise these records means that for the first time, these diaries can be accessed without the need to visit our reading rooms in Kew."

our army of volunteers for Operation War Diary
"We are delighted to announce Operation War Diary,
an exciting new crowdsourcing project in partnership with the Imperial War Museums
and Zooniverse. With
over 1.5 million pages of unit war diaries due to be released over the coming
months, we need your help to transcribe the pages and unearth the hidden
stories."
