Creating Webpages and Need a Good Site

From: nahoapili
Webpages. Does anyone know of a good site to post an original family webpage that is free and easy? Do you know if Family Tree Maker allows for originality or must you conform to their rules?

If you wish to create a family website, consider the following:

-- With Family Tree Maker, the site goes on their site, and they subsequently see your genealogy data on a CD. The pages are public, and very easy to create within the Family Tree Maker program. However, they are generic looking genealogy pages.

-- Private family sites are very easy through but you'd have to invite people to join. This option is good for the immediate family, because it has a calendar option, photo gallery, etc. There is a file library so you can post your genealogy data files. You won't need any special software, because you create the site online by picking options within your site by signing in as the administrator.

-- RootsWeb provides free webspace for
----- families
----- genealogy societies
----- USGenWeb & WorldGenWeb

Apply for free web space by going to: You will need to learn to design webpages or use a "WYSIWYG" (what you see is what you get) web design software program like "Front Page." Then you will need some sort of FTP (file transfer protocol) software program like "WS_FTP Pro" to upload the new pages to your site on the RootsWeb computers.
