British Institute: SLC, 6 – 10 October 2008

NOTE from DearMYRTLE: Thanks to Ann Wells for making the following posting to the APG (Association of Professional Genealogists) public mailing list:

The International Society for British Genealogy and Family History is hosting its Annual British Institute from 6 – 10 October 2008 in Salt Lake City. Here is a great opportunity to take a course, work on your own research and visit Salt Lake City.

The Institute offers expert instructors, exceptional educational opportunities, small class sizes, individual consultations with instructors, assistance on-site in the Family History Library and a helpful and friendly atmosphere.

Lectures are held for half a day and then the rest of the day is left for research to apply what you’ve learned as it pertains to your research.

This year Barbara Baker is joining the Institute with “Scottish Research Basics.” She will cover Scottish resources, 19th century records, 18th and earlier records, on-line sources and tips for a productive research trip.

Barbara Baker has a BA in Family and Local History from BYU and has worked as a British Reference consultant at the Family History Library for over 20 years. She is a professional genealogist and lectures both in the U.S. and Britain.

For more information about the Institute, visit the society’s Web site at
