DearREADERS,
Just when Ol' Myrt here thought it was safe to step away from her computer, something new showed up for me at Ancestry.com's online family trees -- a new "VIEW RELATIONSHIP TO ME" button when viewing an individual on the screen. By clicking that new button, I received the following, which is easily copied/pasted into email when corresponding with a cousin, as indicated by my blue highlights below. Of course, this all depends on my having entered the data accurately to begin with, but I digress.
Because I allowed the default "Show relationship on profile page" we have the new sub-title for my Mary Ann Hoope highlighted in blue below:
Kewl beans.
Happy family tree climbing!
Myrt :)
DearMYRTLE,
Your friend in genealogy.
I'm loving this new feature. I have the Family Tree Maker software, which I'm not a fan of. The relationship indicator is one of the reasons I use the software, so with this change it's one less reason for me to use the software.
ReplyDeleteDev, most genealogy programs provide a relationship calculator.
ReplyDeleteDear Myrt,
ReplyDeleteIsn't East Goshen in Chester County, PA? There are Hoopes there and else where. Would really be interested in doing a little investigation on that line. My Uncle's mother was a Hoopes, but she was adopted in Philadelphia and have had issues tracking her down.
Russ
Dev,
ReplyDeleteHave you looked at Family Tree Maker Version 2011? There is a new feature there that is great. A two column chart showing the common ancestor between two people.
Russ
You are so right, Russ -- it was corrected in my RootsMagic but not in my online tree at Ancestry.com.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this little Ancestry update alert! What a cool new feature. Now it will be simple to tell my cousin how we're related to all these distant relatives (she's always curious and thinks I know all the answers - maybe we won't tell her that Ancestry is just way smarter than me!!).
