WEBINAR: Ancestry Trees can JUMPSTART your research TODAY

Today my daughter Carrie Keele of and Ol' Myrt here will be busy talking about how Ancestry Trees Can Jump Start Your Research in our Legacy Family Tree webinar. Working with host Geoff Rasmussen yesterday made me realize once again how modern technology makes it easier to pick the "low lying fruit" as we climb our family trees.

Find out why Ol' Myrt gave up the notion to avoid sharing her family tree online. Secret: It's all about collaboration. This webinar guides participants through the process of creating a GEDCOM file in the Legacy Family Tree software, uploading the file to, and looking for "reasonable" matches to digital photos and images of documents using Ancestry's "shaking leaf" hints option. We then focus on deeper searches using using the "magnifying glass" and analysis of reliability of matches.

Topics include:
  • GEDCOM - Privacy issues with living individuals
  • Ancestry Member Trees privacy options
  • Changing views
  • Editing profiles
  •'s shaky leaf
  • Accepting an suggestion
  • Reviewing another Ancestry Member Tree
  • Communicating with other researchers

PS - For those of you who haven't met Carrie, she is the author of the popular Not Your Mother's Genealogy Blog. Despite being DearMYRTLE's daughter, Carrie swore she would never do genealogy. However, she found her first probate record on microfilm at the age of ten. From 2009-2011, Carrie  served as the administrative assistant for the Utah Genealogical Association, including work with UGA's annual Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. Carrie's background informs her interest in all things technical -- be it blogging, photography, webinars or social media. Now an avid genealogist, Carrie seeks to bridge the generation gap to preserve family heritage. Carrie is past president of her school PTA and now serves at the council level. She, her husband and two marvelously brilliant children reside in Sandy, Utah.

Can you tell I'm a proud mother and grandmother?

Happy family tree climbing!
