Thoughts on Discussions - about "PROOF" and such

DearREADERS,
Following much discussion (with a few approaching arguments) about the use of the term "proof" in genealogy circles,  Mr. Myrt and I spent a good 45 minutes talking about it ourselves before getting up this morning. (Yup, that's early morning pillow talk for two avid genealogists!)  TMI?

Discussion accomplishes several worthy goals:

1. Internalizing principles taught by Dr. Jones in Mastering Genealogical Proof and other industry leaders such as Elizabeth Shown Mills in the first two chapters of Evidence Explained.

2. Comparing and contrasting said principles with one's current research practices.

3. Comparing one's practices with innovative patterns developed by local genealogy friends.

4. Extending the discussion beyond the confines of one's immediate circle of fellow researchers, diligently seeking alternative thought.

5. Acknowledging changes brought forth by new found record groups and emerging technologies.

6. Careful to eschew 21st century definitions of legal terms, understanding colloquialisms from each ancestor's residence and time period.

7. Resolving to espouse best research practices.

Wouldn't you say this becomes a cycle of learning until we get old and set in our ways?

Getting from CD to Amazon Cloud: We originally looked at Digital Decisions: Taking Your Media Beyond the Home Stereo, but Ol’ Myrt has figured they forgot to describe the process fully. It includes the following free software:

 "I am volunteer at a local Adult Care Community, where I "teach" them family research. I use FTM2014 and now the whole class (5 to 8) use Family Tree Maker, or at least those with a computer. Each active member of the class has given me a Family Group Sheet..."

It's great when the students start helping each other, reinforcing principles you've taught.

I got mine in white. It hold 120% of the usual iPhone 5 battery life. It is cheaper by about $20 from what I purchased at the Apple Store.

IsBlogging REALLY Dead? I blog less, and FB or G+ more. Ol' Myrt here spends more time VLOGging (video blogging).  

• Heather Wilkinson Rojo’s The Obituary of Katherine (Eaton) Emerson, 1809 A great example of showing the digital image of a great find, along with a word-for-word transcription, complete info about the source and where to access it online, AND information about the deceased and her family. Talk about using a blog for cousin bait! Way to go, Heather.
• Preserving our past – Everything you wanted to know about digitizing your photo album, but were afraid to ask!  A marvelous example where someone shares how-to info in a blog. Love this!
• The In-Depth Genealogists: When to do a Timeline (and how to make it effective) by Leslie (Gignac) Drewitz. Though we didn't get time to discuss this with the panel, Ol' Myrt applauds the sharing of methodology insights posted in this blog.
