How about 17 classes and on-site Family History Library research guidance? Quite an alternative to the 66% cut in reference librarian staff at the FHL. Our friend Holly Hansen of FamilyHistoryExpos.com hosts 5-day research retreats now held monthly. Folks who have attended previous retreats appreciate the staff Holly collects to teach classes and provide one-on-one research guidance.
During this interview +Cousin Russ asks about student-teacher ratios and Ol' Myrt discovers the Crystal Inn provides a free to the Family History Library, and to and from the airport if you are flying in. Holly explains the framework of the retreat. I simply cannot believe the number of high caliber staffers and variety of classes offered each month.
You'll find the 5-10 January 2015 Scandinavia Sources and Strategies Retreat includes 17 classes and plenty of guided Family History Library research time. The schedule is found below.

THANK-you, Holly for providing research support, so sorely needed to help folks get up to speed finding appropriate extant record groups to determine family relationships. I'll bet your retreats fill up quickly even among those of us who live in Salt Lake City.
Happy family tree climbing!

Wow! Incredible opportunities here. Thanks for posting all the details. I've clipped to Evernote so I don't forget what/when.
ReplyDeleteDearCELIA,
DeleteAs usual, Holly Hansen is ahead of the curve -- figuring out what researchers need. I imagine with her 15 years experience hosting these retreats, these will become popular as folks realize they need more help than is available at the now non-existent reference desks.
