Last month, we created the space to embrace all segments of our genealogy community when planning and hosting society board meetings, conferences, SIG (special interest group) meetings and virtual presentations (live stream, Tweet chat, webinar, Hangout on Air, and such.) To that end, Ol' Myrt here humbly suggests that at the beginning of each genealogy event the host and presenter will display a slide bearing a United Nations' International Decade for People of African Descent logo and read the affirmation paragraph listed below in italics:
Before each genealogy event state “This organization recognizes the United Nations' International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024. We reach out to all regardless of race, color, creed or national origin with support for researching family and documenting cultural inheritance.”
Affirming this belief empowers all.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Please share this with every genealogy society and webinar host you know.
- PowerPoint Slide: UnitedNations_AfricanDescent to copy/paste into the beginning of every slide presentation.
- Graphic with affirming paragraph to include in print and digital publications
- UN_AfricanDescent_Emblem in English to include in print and digital publications
- For other language emblems
