HOW to participate in the Indexing Challenge

"We are all an extension of those that came before us. So it's vitally important that we understand how they lived, what their thought process was, what life was like for them so that we in turn can appreciate the type of life that we're living now, and understand that everything that we have accomplished, everything that we have now is because of the things that they experienced and went through. And the legacies that they left to assure that we are afforded a good life...Our ancestors are calling out for us to tell their stories. And we need to be obedient and we need to hear them and we need to answer the call.” Source: Tamela Tenpenny-Lewis, National President of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society.

Ol' Myrt here asks that each of her followers to contribute 30 minutes each week in July 2015 to this massive indexing project. That will surely get the ball rolling.

1. Learn more about the project at
2. Create a account, if you don't already have one.
3. When selecting projects to download, choose one of the Freedmens Record sets as shown below:

The FamilySearch Indexing process involves at least two sets of eyes on each image. Do you best. Ol' Myrt has created a Google Sheet if you'd like to keep track of your numbers here:

Happy family tree climbing!
