DearREADERS,
We lead off with a non-genealogist asking about Japanese research, then spend time discussing the advisability of adopting the principles in our new series called "Hybrid Society Meetings". Now SAR has permitted DNA evidence for new applicants, following what the DAR has permitted for some time. This lead to showing the link of Blaine Bettinger's Shared Centimorgan Project diagram on his blog, The Genetic Genealogist. For additional topics and links we mention, see the typed chat log below my signature.

New Video Series! HYBRID SOCIETY MEETINGS https://blog.dearmyrtle.com/p/hybrid-society-meetings.html. Cousin Dave Robison stated his Western Massachusetts Genealogical Society grew significantly when they included a virtual component to their in-person meetings.
- 10:12:33 From Jenny Hawran: Dave brought us into the new century at CSG! :) [Connecticut Genealogical Society.]
- 10:13:52 From Cyndy Bray: The one good thing that came out of the virus for me is that I get to attend the Prince Georges County Genealogical society meetings from here in California.
- 10:14:34 From Melinda Culpon: That is the consensus for our board meetings four our society as well
- 10:14:39 From Shelley Murphy: What a great idea! Wonder if it will work with the societies I am involved with. Hmmmm…
- 10:15:57 From Sheri Snodgrass: With Zoom, our members all over the country are joining the Special Interest Groups they could not attend in the past as they were local. And we are getting more non-members to our classes as well.
- 10:17:03 From Randy Seaver: But less than half of the CVGS members have even tried to attend a CVGS Zoom meeting. Many just don't have the equipment or knowhow to deal with it. OTOH, we have added 8-10 members from out of town who take advantage of the Zoom .
- 10:17:06 From Hazel Meldrum: The Aberdeen Family History society has been running Zoom meetings at a minimum one a month, since lock down ,we have nearly 50-100 attending each meeting. Our members are joining from Canada and Australia and of course England. Our Australian and Canadian groups run their own meetings and are pleased when a local decides to join in. We are talking about how to arrange this when meeting go back to normal.
- 10:17:18 From Shelley Murphy: My local DAR chapter is doing our meetings via zoom!
- 10:17:55 From Danine Cozzens: I’ve been able to take courses with American Ancestors in Boston from my home in California.
- 10:18:05 From Randy Seaver: The San Diego colony of Mayflower Descendants is doing Zoom meetings. They invite prospective members - smart move!
- 10:18:08 From Karen Jaszewski: With all the Zoom meetings sometimes I have to have one on my computer, and one on my phone…if both the topics are really good! :P
- 10:18:24 From Frank Jatzek: And here we start in June to lift every vaccination regulations, so everyone that wants it simply can go to the Family doctor and go!
- 10:18:46 From Sheila Benedict: GSG [Genealogical Speakers Guild] is on Zoom; APG's chapters are on Zoom.
